TAB’s role in New Zealand

The Department of Internal Affairs states that TAB New Zealand is the only betting operator permitted to provide racing and sports betting to New Zealand customers from 28 June 2025. Its position comes from the domestic statutory framework. It should not be interpreted as a licence to offer the same account throughout the world.

The government describes a service operating online and through retail outlets. For a sports reader, the useful comparison is therefore between the relevant TAB markets and bet types, with attention to their rules and price. Racing and sports share the wider service, but the conditions for one kind of wager should not be assumed to govern another.

Finding sports and markets

TAB’s June 2026 app update describes filters for leagues and regions, event grids, favourites and separate views for upcoming and live events. It supports moving between head-to-head markets, futures and Same Game Multis. These are useful navigation options when following several games, although they do not establish how many markets a particular fixture will have.

Use the event page to check the selected competition and match before building a multi. For a Same Game Multi, read each leg’s market wording and the final combined betslip. A displayed score, popular selection or featured market is a browsing aid; it does not change the conditions of the wager you confirm.

Verification and location

Identity verification is a practical first step, not a task to leave until a withdrawal. TAB’s verification guidance says it must be completed within seven days to deposit over NZD 500, withdraw winnings and continue betting. Resolve document issues before relying on the account.

The linked account terms require age 18 or over and prohibit using the account while physically in Australia, Ireland or Singapore. Travelling customers should check the current terms and their location before using any account feature.

Settlement and cash out

Use TAB’s current rules and terms hub for the applicable sports rule. Keep the accepted bet reference for a settlement query and distinguish an official result from a live scoreboard update. Read the postponement and abandonment provisions for your sport before a weather-sensitive event.

The account terms make cash out discretionary: TAB can reject a request or suspend eligibility. An accepted cash out ends the original fixed-odds bet. Consider whether you are comfortable holding the bet to its normal conclusion rather than assuming an early exit will remain available.

Banking and our assessment

The terms state amounts in NZD and permit deposits and withdrawals through approved channels, subject to verification and other account restrictions. Check the live cashier for your route and any limits before funding. No universal completion time is established by those terms.

TAB’s domestic reach and event-navigation tools are useful for eligible New Zealand customers following several sports. The main practical constraints are identity checks, overseas-use restrictions and conditional cash out. Confirm those before comparing individual markets, and keep your sports and racing activity within one overall budget.
